MyNetDiary and MyFitnessPal:Calorie Counter apps are compatible with iPhone, iPad, Android, and Blackberry. They are two of the popular calorie counting apps because of their simple and comprehensive features.

Simple to use when on the go

WebMD’s Chief Lifestyle Expert Dr. Pamela Peeke M.D and Author of Body for Life for Women spoke about the method of weight-loss in an interview.

“MyNetDiary is interesting because of its fast food entry and monster food database. You can log in anywhere,” she said.

That’s what makes it convenient. A working mom would be able to count calories out at lunch with her co-workers without any difficulty.

Dr. Peeke likes the easy navigation and quick tools that allow you to get information on foods. The food appears as soon as you type the first few letters saving an extra 10 to 20 seconds per entry.

The app is simple and offers support.

“There is a huge community that you can use for support and long-term accountability,” said Dr. Peeke. A support system is valuable when trying to lose weight, especially on the days when you lack motivation.

Another plus according to the doctor is that MyFitnessPal has a recipe builder that doesn’t seem overwhelming.

“People can track the basics without a lot of bells and whistles,” she said.

Conversely, she says that you may not get super detailed reports of their analysis and diets. Also, there aren’t many recommendations on exercises and workouts,  or a huge breakdown of vitamins and minerals.

“They aren’t misleading and are exremely safe, “ she added.  

Seniors may have to work around medical conditions and share the app with a team a medical professional to make sure it’s okay  use.

A diet plan that works for one person may not be as successful for another, so eating the foods that you’re used to will lead to better results; depriving yourself of the foods you enjoy will eventually drive you to quit.

Get involved in the group sessions–most people who participate have better results. They keep the weight off as oppose to the typical dieters. Also, people who have long-term weight management engage in some type of activity. A sedentary lifestyle isn’t healthy.

“Exercising is an important part of weight loss,” said Dr. Peeke. She recommends seeking information from a fitness professional when exercising with the apps.

WebMD Food and Fitness planner is coming out this year.  “You will never find a more safe comprehensive diet guide for dietary intake and physical fitness,” said Dr. Peeke. “It includes lots of input about current medical conditions and disabilities.”
