Right in the mix of Comedian Mo’Nique’s talk of her Netflix boycott, another comedian Tiffany Haddish, has recently announced that she got her own $800,000 dollar deal with the streaming service.
She is to be the lead in a Netflix animated comedy series “Tuca and Bertie.” Reportedly, Haddish will play a “cocky-care-free toucan” named “Tuca” that is friends with “Bertie,” a daydreaming singing bird.
Despite Mo’Nique’s claims of racial discrimination, the 50-year-old comedian congratulates Haddish. She assured her that, “You’ve done nothing wrong my sister. You KEEP SHINING! I am proud of you. You keep doing what you’re doing. You are making it better for the next ones. Luv u 2 life.”
Mo’Nique’s claims of being lowballed by Netflix with a $500,000 offer for a standup special broke the internet last month. She accused the network of racial and gender bias because they paid Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Amy Schumer millions more. “I couldn’t accept that low offer, because if I did … I couldn’t sleep at night,” said Mo’Nique. “I say this humbly: I am the most decorated comedian alive. But if I accepted $500,000, what does Tiffany Haddish have coming? If I accept that, what does the black female comedian have coming? Because what they’ll say is, ‘Mo’Nique accepted this and she’s got that.’ So what do they have coming?”
It’s been reported that Mo’Nique has had her differences in opinion with many who have gone against her claims that she’d been “bullied” and “blackballed” by the industry.
According to Page Six, last week, Whoopi Goldberg clashed with the comedian over her refusal to travel overseas to promote “Precious,” which Goldberg said was contractually part of the job. Mo’Nique also argued with “The Breakfast Club” host Charlamagne tha God about her Netflix deal.
Do you think Mo’Nique should apologize to the owners of Netflix?
