Is Megan Thee Stallion The Next Female Rap Sensation?

After Cardi B reportedly tweeted about the up-and-coming-rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, “No one can ever be me,” it brought on the urge to see what all the hype is about. (Cardi B later said the post wasn’t about her.) However, Megan Thee Stallion has gotten enough buzz lately to make it worth finding out what she’s about.

Megan Thee Stallion’s fan-base spiked last year when dropping “Tina Snow.” Since then, folks have tried to put the pieces together of who she is.

The Houston-made rapper’s presence crept up on us after making headline after headline this weekend in magazines such as Rolling Stone, Essence and the whole nine!

Megan is currently signed with 300 Entertainment, the label that brought us Migos and Young Thug. She has been named an up-and-coming rapper and hip-hop phenomenon by the Rolling Stone. The magazine reports that her story is one of the most exciting stories in hip-hop right now and “it’s all about the women who are rising to the top of the genre’s ranks.” Rolling Stone reported that she is leading the pack, due to her hit songs  “Big Ole Freak,” the rest of her breakthrough mix-tape, Tina Snow — and more. One thing is for sure, the girl has bars!!! Check any radio interview on her page!

When listening to her music, you must have an acquired taste for steamy punch-lines and racy hooks.  She has an unbelievably sick flow with an unfiltered and raunchy style that makes Cardi B and Nicki Minaj look like Mother Teresa. Megan’s new music, “Sex Talk,” is a single “propelled by a bass-blowing, body-shaking bass” where she talks about all her explicit fantasies. She claims to have more to come. Megan recently began working on a new studio album, Fever, which is set to drop.

In addition to her growing fame, some unfortunate news surfaced about the artist. Friday, she took to Instagram to mourn the loss of her mom and manager Holly Thomas who died from a Brain Tumor.

“The best mom in the whole world,” she wrote in the caption. “The strongest woman on the planet. I can’t even put complete sentences together rn RIP mama.”

Megan’s mom was a rapper, who went by the stage name Holly-Wood, back in their hometown of Houston. Watching her mom’s rap career, sparked Megan’s interest in hip-hop and became the drive behind her growing  passion for hip-hop. Thomas can be seen on Instagram videos directing her and cheering her on in the studio. Megan spoke to Essence magazine about her memories early on sitting in on many of her mother’s studio sessions.

“I knew I wanted to be a rapper when I was, like, 5,” Megan recently told ESSENCE. “My mom was a rapper. I would go to the studio with her, and that definitely showed me I can do this. I wanna do this. I remember my first time ever listening to rappers like Pimp C and Biggie, and being like, ‘All this would sound super cool if a girl was saying it,’ so I gotta go do this.”

The rapper appears to want to live out her mother’s dreams.

Will she be the next queen of rap? If she continues her momentum, it’s possible! But hopefully, she can share the throne with other up-and-coming female talent and change the game.

Kudos to Megan Thee Stallion!
